I loved today. I got to spend the entire day with Jameson, just him and I. No work, no papers to write, no friends... just us. You would think we have a lot of time to ourselves but with Jameson's work and all of our friends we've met, we are always doing something on this island. He told me he would take me to Aunu'u, a volcanic island just a 10 minute boat ride from American Samoa. I asked him my usual 50 questions. "Is there shade? Do I bring my water shoes? Do we have to hike? Will I get sea sick?" haha, poor Jamie. He's so sweet and patient with me. He told me that today we will get married on a tropical island. We both laughed, which made me feel a little better. ;) (Don't worry Mom, we didn't!) The boat ride was a sinch! No sea sickness at all! We arrived on Aunu'u quickly. There were so many children playing outside just staring at us Palagis as we walked by. They don't see very many foreigners, so they can't help but to stare. My heart sank as the boat drifted away. I truly felt like I was being stranded on this small island; population 500!! I saw a few stray dogs, some Fale's and some Samoan men eating lunch in front of a church. We said Talofa, they waved and smiled back, which made us feel more comfortable. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was! So many palm trees with off white dead coral everywhere. The coral looked like gorgeous white rocks. Nothing 'dead looking' about it. And the waves were huge! Jameson was mesmerized. After pulling him away from the waves, we kept hiking and found the infamous Faimulivai Marsh. It looked like a big pond. There were even ducks swimming around! The Pacific Black Duck. The first duck I've seen since I've been here. We kept walking and found this amazing view! A huge crater covered in greenery made out of volcanic rock is just sticking out into the ocean. I thought for a serious second that I really would just get married here today. ;) The beauty was stunning! Again, I imagined my Mom, my sister, my mother in law, my best friends all experiencing this with me. I felt like I had truly found paradise.
