I've been teaching for a month now. One would think that I would catch on to the fact that every single one of my students has a brand new MacBook Pro. One would think. Well, sadly enough, I just barely made the correlation on Monday. Haha! I told my kids that they had to research the "Theme Song to their Life". They need to write a 5 paragraph essay on a song that best represents who they are. (I found out if you make up assignments that have to do with their friends and music, they tend to get a little more motivated;) As they all took out their computers I naively commented, "wow, all your parents bought you guys new computers??" They all laughed. Stupid Palangi teacher! Of course not. My school provides every high school student a new computer that they get to take home everyday to call their own. They turn in the computer when they graduate. Is anyone else completely blown away by this?! Come to found out this is fairly common in Samoa. Brand new equipment funded by federal grants. A great resource for these children to thrive academically. I hope they use it for good and not to surf the web while I lecture!
